It is not yet possible to buy crypto directly from Standard Charted in 2023. However, the bank accepts transactions to crypto exchanges, allowing you to buy Bitcoin & Ethereum with your Standard Charted account. In this article, I explain in detail how this works.

How to buy Bitcoin & Ethereum at Standard Charted?

Step 1: open an account with a crypto exchange

First, open an account with a reliable crypto exchange. In the overview below, you can immediately see what options are available:

Step 2: preparing your account

Next, go through the activation steps to prepare your account for carrying out the transaction. You need to confirm your identity first with all reliable exchanges.

After your account is fully activated, you can deposit funds using your Standard Charted account. Depending on the crypto exchange, it may take several days for the transaction to be processed.

Step 3: buy your favourite crypto with Standard Charted

When your account is ready for action, you can buy your first crypto right away. I myself invest mostly in Bitcoin and Ethereum, but you can of course choose other altcoins as well. However, it is then important to read up well, as so-called shitcoins often lose their value.

Within the trading software, navigate to the crypto asset you want to buy and open the order screen. Within the order screen, you can enter the amount you want to buy crypto for. It is possible with a limit order to enter a maximum price you want to pay.

After you send the order, it will be executed within minutes. Remember to regularly assess whether your crypto investment still suits you. You can sell your crypto again at any time and transfer your funds back to your Standard Charted bank account.

Practice trading crypto

Are you new to the world of crypto? I can imagine that the options can be quite overwhelming. It may then be useful to connect your Standard Charted account with a demo account first.

You can try out the possibilities at many crypto exchanges completely risk-free with an unlimited demo. You will then receive, for example, $100,000 in fake money with which you can make investments in crypto. The results you achieve with your crypto demo are real; only you cannot earn or lose money!

Will Standard Charted offer crypto?

Personally, I don’t think banks like Standard Charted will sell crypto currencies any time soon. Regulators worldwide are still fumbling with crypto and the many scams do not give crypto currencies a good name. At the same time, banks also see the potential of crypto, so they still want to give users the chance to invest in, say, Bitcoin or Ethereum via crypto exchanges.
